NUIT BLANCHE ALERT: MAPS AND ROUTE SUGGESTIONS
You’ve probably heard of Nuit Blanche, but how do you make sense of it? Please find three maps, carefully edited to provide you with the best possible experience of NB Toronto.
CLICK ON EACH MAP TO ENLARGE IT.
VoCA recommends that you begin Nuit Blanche in Yorkville. Start on Bloor street with a performance by Ulysees Castellano and then head in to Yorkville Park for a corn-roasting performance by Ron Benner. Cruise down University Ave, past the video against the Michael Lee Chin crystal at the ROM, the Michael Snow projection on the roof of the planetarium and don’t miss Fujiko Nakaya’s fog installation along Philosopher’s Walk. NUIT BLANCHE ALERT: ZONE B
Nuit Blanche Toronto has three zones. Zone A is Yorkville, Zone C is Queen West, and Zone B is around the Ontario College of Art and Design at Dundas and McCaul Streets.
As you’re making your way around town, be sure to stop at the Gardens of the Italian Consulate (136 Beverly Street at Dundas) where seven EU countries will be screening video works by seven internationally recognized artists. Although no information could be found on six of the artists (great pr, guys) it’s ok because it will be worth it if only to see work by the excellent Bjorn Melhus from Germany.

(And don’t forget to look back at our Sept 8th entry for our top fifteen Nuit Blanche Toronto picks.)
NIGHT SWIM:
I know, I know. You’re not about to interrupt your night of art-y events to sit in a pool with a bunch of (possibly drunk) strangers…

But this is no mere pool, people. This is sure to be an experience. For anyone with a sense of adventure and no concrete plans for Nuit Blanche Toronto, this is the event for you.

1. SPOTLIGHT: THE GARDINER MUSEUM
2. TORONTO THIS WEEKEND: The Queen West Art Crawl TOP PICKS
3. TORONTO FREE GALLERY: Last night
1. THE GARDINER MUSEUM: Check out the excellent exhibition by French Canadian sculptor Jean-Pierre Larocque, whose large horses and heads are swathed in layer upon layer of ceramic bandages. The large, gaunt, staring heads particularly remind me of Thomas Schutte’s work.
