One of the best things about TIAF has always been the international lecture series. This year, the talks were organized by Power Plant director Gregory Burke and look as worthwhile as ever.
The Power Talks – (Think of your $12 as a donation to the Power Plant)
This year’s speakers’ series considers two interrelated themes – Institutional Futures for Contemporary Art (hello, David Moos) and The Collector as Curator - a timely subject.
Great collections bring diverse artworks into one, or several cohesive themes, stemming from the collector’s interests. That way, the collection becomes a reflection of the collector – a very personal thing. Collectors should be discrouaged from simply buying brand names, although this type of collection is still, of course a reflection of its owner.

This year, a series of interviews debuts at TIAF at 3 pm on Saturday and Sunday.
Conducted by Robert Enright of Border Crossings Magazine, they promise to be great, although I can’t tell you much since the interviewees names are being kept mysteriously under wraps. Unusual but fine because if his interviews in Border Crossings are anything to go by, no matter who he interviews, Robert Enright will be excellent.
All we know is that there will be three gallerists interviewed on the Saturday and three artists on the Sunday.
