DHC/ART, Canada’s newest art foundation – perhaps to rival Toronto’s Ydessa Hendeles – will open on October 5th in Montreal with an exhibition by British sculptor Marc Quinn.

DHC/ART Foundation is a privately endowed contemporary art organization. Located in a newly renovated building in Old Montreal, the foundation also supports off-site programming, like the recent installation by artist David Altmejd in Canada’s pavilion at the Venice Biennale, and screenings of Matthew Barney’s Drawing Restraint 9, and Douglas Gordon’s football film, Zidane.

The show runs October 5, 2007 – January 6, 2008.

This is the sculptor whose cast of his own head in his own blood – displayed in a refrigerated unit – was bought by mega collector Charles Saatchi and melted during a power outage.

Quinn also created Alison Lapper Pregnant, the sculpture a parapalegic that graced the plinth at London’s Trafalgar Square in 2005 to April 2007.

The show, Quinn’s first solo exhibition in Canada, will include over 40 recent works including his latest refrigerated sculptures, titled Sky.

Expect marble sculptures, DNA portraits, wax castings, bronze sculptures including one, titled The Selfish Gene, of two human skeletons making love.
