The international art world is rife with forgery, fraud and misappropriation - which makes for some fascinating reading.

VoCA happened to notice that this sculpture - credited as “A crucified Christ, on display at the new Salander-O’Reilly Galleries” on Artnet.com:

Looks suspiciously like this sculpture - of which the CBC wrote “A life-sized Crucifixion sculpture by 17th-century Italian master Gian Lorenzo Bernini has been donated to the Art Gallery of Ontario.”

We guess that the family of real estate developer and AGO board member Murray Frum, who donated the work to the Art Gallery of Ontario, purchased it from Mr. Salander.
In a related story, an international group of high-end counterfeiters were caught last week. The group was selling “limited edition” art mostly on eBay, including work by Salvador Dali and Marc Chagall.
