The New York-based German photographer “breaks the photographic moment into several points of view through the use of multiple cameras in a single shot.” It’s surprising and charming for the viewer to be suddenly placed inside perspectives other than their own. And it’s not that often – anymore - that photography is able to surprise.

One local artist whose photographic work succeeds in surprising the viewer is Michael Awad. His moving panoramic images both highlight and blur the cityscape that they depict. Awad has managed, though an elaborate system, to convey the passing of time in a still image. As the viewer strolls the length of the photograph, the scene unfolds, cinema-style.

Object Factory: The Art of Industrial Ceramics at the Gardiner Museum

VoCA loves the Gardiner. With increasingly exciting exhibitions organized by a roster of international curators, the museum’s programming is living up to its architectural re-design. (Let’s hope the AGO follows suit)

This exhibition is about how artists and designers are re-thinking ceramics, and includes pieces by artists Cindy Sherman and Arman, designers Ettore Sottsass (a VoCA favorite) and Masahiro Mori, and industrial manufacturers Rosenthal and Nymphenburg.
