He spoke with Tom Tittemore, chair of the Calgary Public Art Board (CPAB) who has a plan.

Tittemore’s first goal is to foster the development of a public art master plan for the city, one that is community-wide, comprehensive and environmentally focused.

The second is to encourage city officials and the private sector to take more time to commission higher-quality pieces.

His goal is to integrate public art and environmental awareness city-wide in a unique and creative way.

To achieve this, UEP has combined its public art funding from 2004 to 2010 into a $7-million budget for public art.

Calgary is looking to Chicago’s Millennium Park as a model. Given that the city appears to have strong private sector support of the arts and the desire to place itself on the map as a cultural destination, VoCA says watch the continued rise of Calgary as a significant cultural destination.
