News: Calgary Announces Major New Public Sculpture

We know that it has its sights set on becoming more culturally-aware. Now, the city of Calgary, Alberta has just announced “a stunning Western bronze destined to become one of the largest sculptures in North America and one of the city’s most photographed icons.”

By the Banks of the Bow, an ensemble of 15 horses and two cowboys blends historical and modern day images into a larger-than-life exhibit that reflects the spirit of Calgary – from the influence of the Bow River to the significant role of the cowboy and the free spirit of the western horse.”

Funded by an anonymous donor to the tune of $2 million, the sculpture is, according to this article, will be “an example of drama and history combined into something with which the public will be able to easily interact.”
