There was an a few excellent Deon Venter pieces at the Buschlen Mowatt booth. Reproductions hardly do justice to his work, and it was a wonderful surprise to see the paintings in person.

Did you catch any of the talks? Le Art Fag ripped into them last year…

Missed the talks – as I was working at the Equinox Gallery booth. But on my walkabout I did make some great discoveries – listed here in order of preference:

1.Tatsumi Orimoto at DNA Berlin. This artist is definitely a VoCA favorite!

    2. Ian Baxter& early works at Jane Corkin Gallery. Good time to buy them, before his retrospective..

    3. Arman bronze at Miriam Schiell Gallery. Love Arman, and there always seem to be decent ones at TIAF

    4. Mike Bayne photorealist paintings at Katharine Mulherin – Excellent, but maybe a little too pricey..

    5. Guy Maddin’s collages at the Other Gallery – Amazing.

    6. Harold Klunder at Clint Roenisch Gallery

Equinox had some Ben Reeves pieces out, right? There were a few of them somewhere…I can’t remember who had them now, so forgive my poor memory if I’m mistaken. I had only seen photos of his work before TIA and was pleased to see them as well. He is certainly one of the strongest contemporary Canadian painters.
